My Favorite Plants with Stephen!: Apple Mortar! Posted: 18 Nov 2020 03:55 PM PST Here ye, hear ye! Stephen Notley's back with us again for another episode of Favorite Plants!: When we're talking about big plants, which we are this week, they don't come much bigger than Apple Mortar. He's a bruiser, and not just because he's so big he almost completely covers up the tile he's planted in. In PvZ2, the size of a plant doesn't necessarily correspond to their effectiveness, but in this particular case, it kinda does. At 250 sun per planting at level 1, Apple Mortar's more pricey than most, but golly whiz, you get a lot for that sun. Like a Threepeater, Apple Mortar covers three lanes, with as many as three apple cores per volley. So with just two Apple Mortars, one each on rows 2 and 4 (or, if you count from zero as some but not all our engineers do or did, rows 1 and 3), you have coverage for the entire board. Better still, each apple core projectile applies a minor stun; three level 1 Apple Mortars will stop a Mech Cone in its tracks. So you're not just applying damage, you're holding back the horde with targeting that's versatile enough to slow a crowd or pin a sneaky ghoul who's out in front. Great stuff. I've gone through phases in my PvZ2 Arena strategies, and for a while I was all about Apple Mortars and Electric Peashooters. I'd build a nice little core of AMs in the back, then totally spam the board with EPs, throwing down another Apple Mortar when sun and cooldowns lined up. It was all about holding and building, holding and building, just pushing forward, filling the board, planting deep into the zombie half of the lawn with pure suppression tactics. It may not be the top most effective strategy (there are other, trickier ones that can outperform it), but it's one of the most fun. It feels a little like chess, establishing board position and improving on it. As a mortar, Apple Mortar is inspired by real-life artillery, so it's no surprise battles with him feel more like... well, battles. And in a game called Plants vs. Zombies, you wanna get that "versus" part nice and crunchy if you can! [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 11:57 PM PST (Almanac Entry) SUN COST: 200 RECHARGE: 20/15/10 DAMAGE: 1400/1500/1600/1700/1800/1900/2000/ AREA: 1x5 SPECIAL: Burning FAMILY: Pepper-mint Magmatango has been dealing with acid reflux for his whole life. "Tried everything. Pills, diets, I even tried this pillow Perfume-Shroom gave me after she saw it on TV. Then, at the family reunion, my dad let slip that his side of the family actually can spit magma." This sounds impressive, but Magmatango learned this at 19, due to him not being the most observant. (Details) Magmatango is a single-use mushroom. While normally plump. it shrivels up, shrinking under it's cap when it shoots fire, with the cap fading out. It spews flames from the tile it's placed on, to 4 tiles ahead. When zombies are hit by the fire, they are lit aflame. When on fire, Zombies will take 20/40/60/80/100/125/150..Explorer Zombies will, instead of taking damage, become Torchlight Zombies when hit. Super-Fan Imps will instantly explode when hit. It's name is based on the the fictional mushroom species Matango, from the 1963 Toei movie Matango, also known as "Attack of the Mushroom People. (Design is a WIP). Open to critique.
