Asking for a friend: Are there any studies about PVZ 1 survival endless in the US?

Asking for a friend: Are there any studies about PVZ 1 survival endless in the US?

Hi! I'm from China, and despite that PVZ 1 had its best time ten years ago, recently it got popular again in China mainly because of the creation of a harder version called "pvz ver.95"(don't know if it's legal or not to modify the game though), which is featured by much greater difficulty and stronger plants (See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX43bwzKTBY for some overview, and if you guys like it I'll later provide a link to it (windows only) )

Long story short, put aside that ver. 95 thing, discussion on PVZ has been continued in China for a long time mainly over the topic that how you can endlessly play the survival endless mode, the arguably most difficult game mode in PVZ. The point of discussion is to find a strategy that can play this game on forever, not just to pass 100 flags or so. Over the years, strategies have been developed, and here are some battle formations that are proven to be capable of endless playing.

This one is the so-called \"Beginner's Strategy\" because you only need to fire the Cannon and fix the Pumpkin, and the sunlight is plenty.

The purest strategy. Just fire fire fire. Notice the Ice-shroom is used to freeze the zombies under the iced pool to prevent them from biting the cannon.

This one requires more work. You need very precise timing over the use of Ice-shroom, Doom-shroom, and other boom plants, and the 0 and 25 cost plants which slows the gargantuar.

Why are there so many ice-shrooms? not just for fun, though. Jack-in-the-box is a great threat for the Gloom-shrooms in the front.

Some people tell you pea-shooters are useless in the endless mode, but it is still possible to use them!

I'm just new to this area, but there have been people working to put this game into theories really hard.

There is a "track theory" that tries to describe a strategy using "waves" in a game, for example, if you have 8 cannons, then because the cannons get new bullet every 35 seconds, you can use two cannons per 9 seconds, and that means every wave allows 9 seconds of time (since once you fire the cannon the zombies refresh and you get a new wave). But if you have only 4, then either you need to elongate the time for each wave by using ice-shrooms or add more waves by using the nuclear weapon+cherry bomb that can destroy the Gargantuar and other zombies. The terms they use are too difficult to understand so I'll now upload them here if anyone really wants it.

As for other constraints of your battle array, dancing zombie (called "King of Dancing 舞王" in China), dolphin rider zombie, bungee zombie, and jack-in-the-box zombie (Nicknamed "The Joker King 丑皇") seems to be big threats, so the theory also tries to find what are the constraints that limit the possibility of formations and how you can satisfy them. For example, the Joker King has a 5% chance to bomb earlier (4.4 seconds after arrival) so you can either prepare a lot of Ice-shrooms in rounds that don't have a Jack-in-the-box Zombie or simply don't place any plants in the front.

Up to now, many battle formations has been designed, not only in pool endless, but also grassland endless, night endless, roof endless, and moon endless (roof + night). Also there are discussions on "Extreme Strategies" which only cares about CD time and allow you to plants for free. For example, how you win the game by using only four permanent plants.

Ok the above is just to introduce how much theories on this game have been developed in China. The question I want to know is: are there similar theories in the US or other countries now? I'm not so sure which platform I should ask on but I think Reddit is a good choice.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 12:21 AM PDT

I played the game a while ago, quitted and just got back into it recently. There are mint plants now? Where can I buy them? None of them r showing up in my store.

Edit: I have just gotten 22 mints btw, so do i need to get to 100 for the mints to show up?

Can we have Scaredy Shroom back in PvZ2?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 10:39 AM PDT

This was one of the best shrooms in PvZ1 because of the long range and low-cost,making it great for night/fog levels, also my favourite plant. This plant(tehnically its a fungus, like the other shrooms in the game) was supposed to be added in the Dark Ages update but the ideea of adding him was canceled and the plant was scrapped... This is one of the plants from PvZ1 that didn't make it to the sequel, just like Cattail or Doom Shroom(most op explosive plant in PvZ1).

I mean, yeah,he hides when zombies get to close to him and that was a pretty big weakness, but why did he become scrapped? I would've been a great replacement for Pea Shooter on levels where you can't spend more than a certain amount of sun,or in Last Stand-type levels

Weekly Penny's Pursuit Discussion #6: Dandelion's Legions of the Undead Side 2

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 11:52 AM PDT

For the sake of consistency, all of the levels will be on Extra Hot difficulty

If an * is on the layout section, it means there is a score system in play as well

    Level 6:

Neon Mixtape Tour, Last Stand 1750 Sun

Plants: Selectable, All Sun Producers, Iceberg Lettuce, Melon Pult, Puff Shroom, Stallia, and all Power Mints are banned

Bonus Objectives: Defeat 2 Cardio Zombies, Never Have More Than 11 Plants (optional)

This level is hard not just in execution, but more in just finding a strategy that works. Since it's NMT, it's one of the rare occasions where you can use Thyme Warp. And it's going to be essential in this level, no bones about it. Another problem is finding the right perk to use. I haven't mentioned it before, but for my playthroughs and for these discussion posts, I always use 1 Perk, no gem spent ones. Really any of the perks could be of use, Bass Blast for holding them back, Plant Food for Instant Recharge, Zom B Gone, even Sun Bank. Maybe Mine Launcher, but idk. Difficulty 5/5

    Level 7:

    Neon Mixtape Tour

    Plants: Selectable, All Enabled

Bonus Objectives: Shrink 55 Zombies, Don't Lose More Than 3 Plants (optional)

Well this certainly contradicts itself. First of all, neither Shrinking Violet nor Enforce Mint (which for some reason won't appear in my almanac, odd) are given to you, so if you don't have it, too bad. Additionally, both plants count as lost plants when shrinking zombies, so you'll need to resort to Shrinking Violets Plant Food for a reliable setup. And, curiously, this level is the same format as the last one, same world and zombie types. Overall, it's not bad, but it's annoying for sure. Difficulty 3/5

    Level 8:

Big Wave Beach, Special Delivery, Bulb Bowling, Survive for 180 Seconds, Tide Line on Column 3 *

Plants: Special Delivery [Sling Pea, Chomper, Charged Light Blue Bulb, Arma Mint]

Bonus Objectives: Score 1.25 Million Points, Don't Let The Zombies Trample The Flowers (Column 1)

This is definitely the most fun level this week, and the most unique so far, but... that doesn't stop it from being the easiest. You have 15 spaces to plant, but if you constantly use Arma Mint in 1 open spot, it will keep being given to you and, with Bass Blast Perk, keep the zombies at bay (pun not intended), if they get too far, use charged bulbs, and it should be safe. Difficulty 1/5

    Level 9:

Pirate Seas, Endangered Zoybean Pods on Column 4 Rows 1 and 2, Planks on Rows 1 and 2

    Plants: Selectable, All Enabled

Bonus Objectives: Produce at least 3000 Sun, Survive and Protect the Endangered Plants

I had to give the edge to this level, but it and Level 8 are interchangeable for the easiest of this week. This one requires a bit of outside thinking, but if you lock down the strategy, this level is quite the pushover. Defending the Zoybeans is not a trouble with the vast arrow of defensive plants, explosives, and both in Explode O Nut. Spring Bean is arguably useful here, in it's native world. Difficulty 2/5

    Level 10:

Far Future, Red Square Power Tiles on Column 1 Row 3, Column 2 Rows 2 and 4, and Column 3 Row 3, Yellow Triangle Power Tiles on Column 3 Rows 2 and 4, Blue + Power Tiles on Column 3 Rows 1 and 5

    Plants: Selectable, All Enabled

Bonus Objectives: Produce at least 7000 Sun, Never Have More Than 16 Plants (optional)

Tackling this level is going to need some thinking. There are a ton of options, but none are flawless. I found this level to be doable with a variety of plant lineups, but none of them were easy, so I'll give it that. The plant maximum objective comes up more than you'd expect, and the 7000 sun produced may need some stalling at the final wave to accomplish. Difficulty 4/5

    Zomboss Fight

Zombot Sphinxinator, Mold on Last 4 Columns

Plants: Selectable, All Enabled, 5 Plant Slots

Fight Objective: Destroy 7 Health Bars in 180 Seconds

Not much to add here, really. Same fight as last week's, so go check that out if you want to know more. One thing I will say, though, is that you should use cheap instant plants like Blover or a Power Mint when he does his rush attack to stop him from destroying all your hard work. Difficulty 4/5

Dear EA please don't use this tactic to drive loyal players away. Been on Jade League, using gems to buy gauntlets, but even after 36 plays, plus daily free gauntlets, I can't never move to the 3rd reward, it's getting annoying, second reward I can score 1.2mill and 3rd below 300k. Please help
