    7.9+ Suggestions

    Posted: 26 Dec 2019 11:51 PM PST

NOTE: I'm pretty sure not a single one of these will be added, but I may as well put it down regardless.

NOTE 2: This is a very long post, so get ready.

Over the last few years, the game has been updated nearly 70 times. At its core, the concept is still there. Plant plants to fend off zombies. But through all of that time, there were many changes to the game. Some of them were for the better, others worse. However, right now, there are several glaring issues that must be addressed.

Here's a list of (imo) major good and bad changes through the years (release dates might be a bit off, but you should get the idea):

    +/- Battlez renamed to Arena

So as you can probably tell, most of the negative changes happened in the 2nd half of the game's lifespan, including removing many things, and reworking some things and making them suck. Here's a chart of what I think are the probabilities of them being re-added.

Possible Return Unlikely Return Gone for good
Gem Drops Multiple Profiles Ultimate Battle and Demonstration Mini Game Soundtracks
World Expansions Mummy Memory Reward Streak Multipliers

    Also here's something I've noticed

People complain that the game is too big: ea removes music

People complain about hackers in battlez: ea removes streaks

People complain the game is too hard: ea nerfs a bunch of levels except the hardest ones

EA seems to maliciously comply with the community's demands, answering them but not in the way they were expecting.

Back to the chart. EA seems to like to keep the game's file size down, as you could probably tell from all of the stuff they removed to keep it down. Therefore, I don't think the music nor the podiums will ever return. Unfortunate, but that's how it is. Although I do wonder why there's so much leftover code and so many unused/unreleased things that are taking up space.

They have also confirmed that streak multipliers will never return. But in that case, there really need to be a way to level up your plants quicker. Others have already gone into detail about the math, so I won't explain it here, but here is the post:

    Link

That is one way to improve the current situation, but it's been a while since that post was written, and nothing has changed. Therefore, we have to think of other ways to improve the situation. As it stands, though, something needs to be done. Unless you use glitches or hacks, it will take over 30 years to max our your account. There should never be a time where the player is forced to use glitches or hacks to make progress in a game. This is a sign that major changes must be made.

Since EA refuses to budge with the new streak, here is an alternative method.

Right now, here's how I (and many others play the game)

    1: do dailies

    2: play some battlez

    3: log off

There really needs to be more to do in the game besides performing the same 10 tasks and playing battlez over and over. Once a week quests need to go. There should be at least once a day quests. Now you might think I'm crazy for suggesting that, considering that might be a bit too much, but think of it this way. Back in the day, many people played 20+ endless levels per day. Or even further back, when new worlds were being added, people often finished the entire world in a single day. This wouldn't be any different really.

Here's the current schedule of events:

    Daily Weekly 2 Weeks
"Do this" (average 2 levels) Plant of the Week (average 6-8 levels / 1 level per day) World Expansion (10 levels / .7 levels per day)
    Inzanity (5 levels)
    Pinata Tracker (10 levels)

Assuming all of them are finished, there are ~19 levels per day to do. That soulds like a lot, but most people won't finish the Inzanity and Pinata Tracker, at least I won't. They might only do 1 or 2 trackers, cutting down on the content by a lot. Also most of the levels are pretty short, so it would probably take around half an hour to finish it all.

Instead, give more options! Let's say we add a daily level where you choose from one of 3 quests, each featuring a certain plant. Once the levels are finished, you receive some seed packets for that plant or plants in the same family. That would make the game more interesting, and you can choose which quest to do based off of what you want upgraded or what you think would be the most fun.

The Plant of the week quests should become Plant of the day quests. Generally I finish them all in the first 2-3 days of the week and then have nothing else to do for the rest of the week. The plant of the week can still be in the shop for the week instead of changing every day, but there should be some kind of featured quest every day to play. Again, you don't have to do the quest, there's plenty of other things to do. Providing options is the best way of making everyone happy. Those who really want to max out everything quickly can do them all, and the more casual players can just finish the things they like.

The World Expansions also should become more frequent. Again, it takes on average around 30 minutes to finish all 10 levels. I wouldn't say daily, but maybe once every 2-3 days. Or maybe instead of playing all 10 levels in a row, choose 10 random Expansion levels to do. Or maybe go back to the way before Battlez was introduced and have the player complete one random Expansion level and receive a small reward.

Regardless of what's done with the quests, please add them back onto the map. I see absolutely no reason as to why they were removed from there in the first place. Sure, there can be quests that give rewards, but there should still be the option for players to play them for fun.

Other sources of seed packets should also be adjusted. Pinata Trackers should give way more seed packets than they do now. Assuming you bought the two additional trackers and you finish them all twice a day, you get an average of 80 seedpackets and 1000 coins. 7 from each pinata + (average) 2 bonuses. These should be adjusted. Put 3 plants in each pinata instead of 2, and 8-12 seed packets are given for each plant. Each tracker should have 500 coins instead of 100. Bonuses should be raised from 5 to 10 seeds each. That would give you an average of 120 seeds and 5000 coins. 20 from each pinata + 2 bonuses. This way, there will be an incentive to play the levels for tracker pinatas because as of right now, the amount of seed packets you get is basically a throwaway and has virtually no impact on progression.

Then there's the pinatas in the store. The ones that cost 5000 coins and give you 20 seed packets for a specific plant. The price of these needs to come way down. Maybe bring it down to 1000 coins, 50 per seed packet. That seems fair. Or keep it at 5000 and raise the amount of seeds given. Something like that.

Endless zones also need a major revamp. They should get harder as you progress, as in harder zombies. Say that every level after a certain point, zombies get a bit stronger. Say they have 10% more health per level, and eat 10% faster, similar to in Battlez. Also after a certain point, maybe 50 levels, start putting in some of the more powerful zombies from the Expansion levels. This would give more of a challenge to Endless zones. Also, add rewards to Endless other than sprouts and ~500 coins per level. Maybe give a tracker pinata for each level completed, or give a pinata with a certain amount of seeds and coins, increasing as you finish more levels.

Now back to Battlez. So far I've been discussing ways to level up plants without playing Battlez, but there should still be a reason to play it. If all the changes above are made, there would be little reason to play Battlez. Therefore, here's the changes I would make:

    1: No more gauntlets!

Gauntlets are an annoying limitation that simply lets the player play less and therefore enjoy the game less. It's like lives in Candy Crush, making you want to play less. Players should not have to be worried about unneccesary limitations, or have to spend money to be able to enjoy 1/2 of the game. They need to go.

    2: Better streaks!

The current 7 win streak setup gives you the following in Jade:

    1 Gauntlet

    12 Mints

    80 Random seeds

    30 Themed seeds

    3000 coins

Let's assume that each 7 wins takes 25 minutes. 3 minutes per match and other time spent collecting rewards, waiting on loading screens, etc. Then let's say the player plans to play Battlez for 2 hours a day, approximately the amount of time taken to finish the streak 5 times, assuming no losses. They would get:

    1 gauntlet every 25 minutes (5 total)

1 mint every 2 minutes and 5 seconds (60 total)

1 random seed packet every 19 seconds (400 total)

1 themed seed packet every 50 seconds (150 total)

    100 coins every 50 seconds (15000 total)

That's not a lot. And this is after playing the game for hours in the best possible scenario (highest league, no losses). When you count in losing and the fact that the player might not be in Jade, the numbers are even worse. Now for the revision. We'll keep the 7 win streak since EA likes that, while adjusting the rewards. This should be the new streak, allowing for higher seed gains:

NOTE: Gold/Jade rewards are much higher since it is very difficult to stay in those leagues compared to in lower ones, and the player would likely need to have higher level plants, meaning they need more seeds to upgrade them. I'm assuming this since having increased rewards would probably incentivize players to push harder for the higher leagues.

    # Soil Wood Brick Iron Bronze Silver Gold Jade
    1 (themed pinata) 1 2 3 4 6 8 14 20
    2 (mints) 3 4 5 6 7 8 12 16
    3 (random pinata) 3 4 5 6 8 10 16 23
    4 (coins) 3000 3000 4000 4000 6000 8000 20000 25000
    5 (themed pinata) 3 5 7 9 12 15 22 30
    6 (mints) 7 9 11 13 16 20 28 36
    7 (random pinata) 5 8 11 14 18 22 35 50

This would allow for fast progression like pre-7.3 days while respecting EA's wish of not re-introducing long streaks (and people's complaints). I believe this would work since while the rewards in Gold/Jade are very high, it is also hard to stay in those leagues and would require more time spent, which should balance it out.

    3: Actual Tournament Rewards!

Now for the tournament rewards. Even compared to the current streak, the suck. Literally the only thing worth getting from them are the gems, nothing else. Instead of giving a small amount of resources, give the player a pinata that has resources and seed packets depending on how many crowns they got, and a bit extra for placing higher. This would mean that there is more of a reason to place higher, and there is still a small reward for placing lower. But if they wanted to keep the current structure, the amounts should change. Again, Gold/Jade are higher because effort. (click on the link below)

Now for seasons. Right now, the season rewards aren't anything special. You get a couple of seed packets and gems and stuff, but for the most part you are just upgrading the season plant. Problem is, there aren't a lot of seasonal plant seeds, and barely anything else. Right now, it is only possible to get season plants to level 5 without spending money to upgrade it further. There should be enough season plant seeds for it to reach level 10, and possibly more, and other rewards should be in there too. Here's a theoretical season reward table (posted separatly since it is very big):

    Link to sheet

    4: Higher level season plants!

This would allow for the season plant to be maxed out and allow for it to reach mastery, assuming the player wants it maxed (of course that's a lot of pushing). There are plenty of other rewards as well (note: I'm thinking of not having mints in there, but haven't figured out what else to put in there).

With these changes, there will be more incentive to play the game. Giving players options to upgrade their plants will allow for more fun to be had for all. Battlez will still be the primary way of leveling, but there will be alternatives for players that don't like playing it, or those who are bored of Battlez, or for newer players to get their plants up a few levels to be competitive in Battlez.

Now for some other changes that can be made. We've addressed the following issues:

    Slow plant levelling

    No incentive to play Endless

    Lack of content to play

    Season Plant can't be maxed

Now for a few smaller ones.

    Re-Add gem drops

Gem drops were removed in 6.1, possibly since other methods of obtaining gems were added. This means there is no real passive source of gems. Especially since it is only possible to get 27 gems a day from watching ads and doing daily quests, plus tournament rewards and the Expansion quests. Past that, the only way to get more gems per day is uninstalling and reinstalling or using glitches. Adding gem drops would give another way to earn gems in the background. Perhaps make things drop during Battlez as well (or maybe have the chances fluctuate depending on how well the player is doing).

    Re-Add Multiple Profiles

I never understood why these were removed when Battlez was released. Sure, it does mean that the player gets more gauntlets, but since gauntlets will be removed should these changes take effect, it won't matter. Removing multiple profiles just made it harder for people to do things like challenge runs or just experiment with stuff in the game.

Add a way to change effective Plant levels.

As mentioned earlier, some people like to try unique challenges. There should be an option to change the effective level of a plant to inbetween level 1 and your current level. Say you have a level 5 plant and want to set it to level 3. You should be able to do that without starting a brand new save and redoing everything in the game.

Add an option to disable premium seed drops

There are some players who are dead set on never buying any plants in the game. For those players, they should not be bombarded with seed packets for plants they won't ever use. Make it so that there is an option to make only World plant seed packets drop, or only unlocked plants. Something like that.

    Re-Add Mummy Memory

Again, who knows why this was taken out. Probably to save space in the game files or something. Whatever the case is, please put it back.

And that marks the end of this massive post that took me over 3 hours to write! Phew. Hopefully at least some of these changes can be made, as this will make a more positive playing experience for all types of players. Don't worry, EA will still make plenty of $ on the game even if all of these changes are made. Between ads, premium plants, and impatient players, we can assure that the game devs are still receiving steady stream of revenue.

PS: Remember how earlier I said that they probably won't add the music back into the game? Well, if at all possible, please re-add it. Because right now I have to open a youtube video on a different device and play it like that, and I would for sure enjoy the game more if I didn't have to do that.

PS 2: There are probably a bunch of spelling and grammatical errors in this post. Please forgive me, I spent a very long time writing this at a very late hour.

I apparently got upgraded to the silver league

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 12:33 AM PST

It was never my intention to be upgraded. After all, I was only playing the tournament whenever I have a free game option for the said event. I made it to the 9th place then I went to bed. Then when I went back to the arena, it told me that I made it to the silver league which I didn't intend to happen. And in my understanding is that a player can only be upgraded if he/she makes it into the top 3.

    Ultomato Upgrade

    Posted: 26 Dec 2019 05:35 PM PST

I'm wondering if it is actually beneficial to upgrade Ultomato past mastery 10 since with every 10 masteries, the chance to activate plant food immediately increases 1%, and the plant food ability for this fruit causes it to blow up. Would you want to risk losing 150 sun just for an aoe blast while also losing the laser part of the plant?

    New world idea: OG adventures

    Posted: 26 Dec 2019 03:35 PM PST

What if you and Dave find yourself at your previous adventures during the pvz 1 events? It goes like this. Penny arrives at the roof of the pvz1 house, while your past selves are fighting zombies at the front yard. Zombies spot you and they try to eat your brains.

Special: You can only plant on pots. Straightforward range plants are not effective because of the roof.

    Plants

Flower pot: It costs 25 sun and recharges fast. Most plants can be planted on it. The pots can be planted on the roof and are exclusive only in this world. Plant food same as lily pad

Coffee bean: It costs 75 sun and basically it boosts temporally the plant it is planted on. Instant use.

Umbrella leaf: It costs 50 sun and will protects plants around a 3x3 area from zombies or projectiles coming from above. Plant food is bouncing all nearby zombies back a little.

Cob cannon: Please it already exists in the Chinese version :)

Golden magnet and marigold, sigh, seriously ;)

    Doom shroom, because doom shroom

Other zombies: Ladder zombie, Bungee zombie, dancer zombie, why not even digger zombie.

Boss: I'd love to see a recreation of the og zomboss from pvz 1

    THNX for reading!
